Family Papers, 1815-1934 and undated, include: Brown's correspondence to his future wife, Maria Smith of Cooperstown (NY), and his cousin, Emoline [Emily] Whitmore of Hamburg (NY). The letters discuss his legal work, family news, and daily life. The family correspondence of Eleanor Fitzgerald of New York (NY) is also included. There are also two sets of divorce papers for family members, 1878-1895, and sermons, 1815-1834, by an unidentified person who preached in New York (State).

Brown (d. 1878) was a lawyer in Hammondsport and Cooperstown (NY). He married Maria Smith. They had a daughter Mary Kelly, who eventually divorced her husband, Alanson W. Kelly.
